Thursday, January 3, l924The sudden and serious illness of FRANK SAMSON the latter part of last week and his death, Sunday morning, came as a surprise to his friends and acquaintances. He had been staying at the C.C. Dye farm west of Lineville looking after Mr. Dye's interests since the latter went to Florida, and expected to leave for his residence at Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, about the first of the year, but was taken seriously ill with an ulcer in his stomach, was taken to the hospital at Centerville last Friday where he passed away. He was buried at Van Wert on Monday afternoon, with funeral services conducted by Rev. A.E. George, Pastor of the M.E. Church at Humeston; a number of local people went there for the funeral. MR. and MRS. SAMSON have spent considerable time here the past two years; she is a sister of MRS. J.W. WINLAND, MRS. M.W. HAMILTON, MRS. R.C. HUTCHINSON and C.C. DYE.

OBITUARY
FRANCIS L. SAMSON, son of SETH and MARGARET SAMSON, was born Janury 24, l884, near Van Wert, Iowa, and grew to manhood in that community. He was married in Spokane, Washington, February 26, l896, to MISS CARRIE RANDOLPH. To them were born two children: MARGARET J. and EDWIN D., the latter of whom died October l0, l9l8. On February 27, l905 he was married to MISS MARY EVA DYE, of Woodland, Decatur County, who with the daughter remains to mourn their loss.
After residing some years in Kansas they have made their home in Humeston, spending the winter in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, to which place he was about to go, when, during a brief stay near Lineville, he became very ill and on December l9, was taken to the hospital at Centerville. Here he underwent a severe surgical operation and, on the morning of December 23, passed away. In his youth he was happily converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Van Wert, Iowa. He lived a faithful Christian life, being a great student and lover of the Bible.
He passed his closing days in much suffering, but was fully sustained and kept in perfect peace by a confident faith in God. His death was most triumphant.
The body was taken to Van Wert, Iowa on Monday, where the funeral service was held in the Methodist Church at 2:30. The sermon was preached by his Pastor, Rev. A.E. George, of Humeston. The remainder of the service was in charge of the Van Wert Pastor, Rev. James Walls. Three brothers and a sister, MRS. THOMPSON, of Chariton, other relatives, and a host of old friends and neighbors were present at the service.
