REBECCA ANN WITTEN, daughter of THOS. G. and REBECCA (WARD) WITTEN, was born in Mercer County, Virginia, Feb. 9, l839. She was the youngest of five children. In l853, being then thirteen years of age, she moved with her parents to Missouri. Here in l863, Sept. 4th of that year, she was married to WM. BLACKBURN and with her husband, moved two years later, first to Illinois and then after a few months to Iowa, coming directly to Decatur County, in Center Township near Old Franklin. In this county their life was lived. MR. BLACKBURN died July l6, l899. Five children came to bless their home, the two oldest, LEOTA and ROBERT died at the ages of l6 and l9 years respectively. Three survive, JENNIE, THOMAS and WARD, and to these in their sorrow, goes out the sympathy of the many friends who knew and loved Aunt BECKY as she has always been known.

MRS. BLACKBURN died at her home, in Leon, July l0, after an illness of some weeks, her age at death was 84 years, five months and a day. Hers was a life worthwhile in every highest sense, not many have passed from our midst who have gained the affection and esteem of neighbors and friends as she did. In her girlhood home in Virginia, she was converted and united with the Methodist Church South and her life has been an example of Christian character to all who have known her.

Funeral services were conducted at the home, Thursday afternoon and burial was made in Van Wert.
