While it had been known for some months that he was in failing health, news of the death of MOREAU SANKEY, eldest son of E.J. SANKEY, of Leon, at his home in Minneapolis, Minn., last Thursday was a shock to his relatives and friends in this city, where he grew to manhood. MR. SANKEY was one of the best known insurance men in the United States, for many years being with the Iowa Travelers Protective Association, and later a general agent for the Employers and Indemnity Corporation of Kansas City, making a remarkable record. The sympathy of many friends goes out to the bereaved family. His body accompanied by his family, arrived from Minneapolis Saturday evening, funeral services being held at the home of his father, Sunday afternoon. He was 54 years, 7 months and 9 days old.

OBITUARY

MOREAU SANKEY was born in Franklin Township, Decatur County, Iowa, Dec. 3, l868, and died at his home in Minneapolis, Minn., July l2, l923, aged 54 years, 7 months and 9 days.

On Sept. l0, l89l, he was married to MISS KATE MOORE of Decatur, and to this union were born four children, three sons survive, PAUL, GEORGE and JACKSON.

MR. SANKEY's life was spent in Decatur County until some time after his marriage, then resided for a time in Creston and Des Moines, and for a number of years his home had been in Minneapolis. He had marked ability as a salesman, and for a number of years had been one of the most successful insurance men in the country, at the time of his death being general agent for the Employers and Indemnity Corporation of Kansas City, and it seemed that he was on the verge of his highest usefulness when the claims of death were laid upon him. He had the happy faculty of making friends with all of whom he came in contact, and a host of friends all over the country mourn his death.

While residing in Des Moines, he joined the University Church of Christ, and had held his membership in this church for the last fourteen years. Besides his sorrowing wife and three sons, he leaves his father, E.J. SANKEY, of Leon; his sisters, MRS. FRED TEALE, of Leon; MRS. T.J. SMITH, of Lamoni; MRS. LOIS LEA, of Nampa, Idaho; MISS CLEORA SANKEY, of Pasadena, California; his brothers, WARREN SANKEY, of Denver, Colorado; and CARLYLE SANKEY, of Davis City.

His remains were brought to Leon Saturday, funeral services being held at the home of his father in Leon, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.E. Habliston, Pastor of the Leon M.E. Church, interment being in the Leon Cemetery. Many friends of the deceased were in attendance.
