BERTHA HANNER MARTIN, eldest daughter of JOHN W. and MARY E. HANNER, was born near Decatur City, in Decatur County, Iowa, October 23, l882.

Departed this life at the C. and C. Hospital, in Hobart, Oklahoma, Thursday morning, April 26, l923, age 40 years, 6 months and 3 days. She lived with her parents until November, l907, when she moved to Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, remaining there only a short time, then moved to Roosevelt, Oklahoma, where she lived until the time of her death.

She was united in marriage to DR. FRANK F. MARTIN of Roosevelt, Oklahoma, November 25, l9l4, and to this union one daughter was born, LOUVA GENEVIEVE, April 26, l923, whose spirit fled with that of her mother's to their eternal home.

MRS. MARTIN accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age in life and united with the Church of Christ at Perry, Iowa, and remained a member of this church until she came to Oklahoma, and finding no church of this body in Roosevelt, she united with the United Presbyterian Church, where she freely entered into the work of the church and was faithful unto the end.

She continued steadfast and undaunted in carrying on the work of her Master, and was always looking for opportunities to lighten the burdens of others, both in speaking words of cheer and comfort and in toiling with her never weary hands.

The comfort and happiness of her father and mother were ever on her heart. One of her greatest desires was to make the declining years of their lives as easy and as pleasant as possible.

After a while when time has dried our tears and healed our broken hearts, her going will be as a bright star, leading us on to that home and loved ones over there. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances, to whom she was ever true and loyal. MRS. MARTIN leaves to mourn her going a faithful and devoted husband, a grief-stricken father and mother, of Lamoni, Iowa.

Four sisters, MRS. HARRY R. FISHER, of Van Wert, Iowa; LOUVA HANNER, Lamoni; MRS. EARL J. SUTHERLIN, Decatur, Iowa; MRS. LERT MCCONNELL, Grand River, Iowa; also three nieces and four nephews, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

The remains of MRS. MARTIN and her infant babe were removed from Hobart for her home in Roosevelt, Friday, where they remained until Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, at which time appropriate services were conducted at the United Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Charles W. Estes, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Hobart, Oklahoma.

It has been said that this was the largest attended funeral service ever held in Roosevelt, and we believe that about eight hundred people were present, which is indeed a tribute of true respect to the memory of the one who has been called away. Burial services were held at the Roosevelt Cemetery, in the presence of a host of friends, all of whom stood with bowed heads and sad hearts as they watched the placing away of the lifeless form of their true friend. "There Shalt Know Hereafter."
