JOSEPH F. MILLER, son of SAMUEL and SALLIE MILLER, was born in Knox County, Ill., Sept. 26, l852, and departed this life at home in Grand River on May 23, l923, being at the time of his death, aged 70 years, 7 months and 27 days.

In l866, MR. MILLER with the family, came to Iowa and located in Decatur County, on a farm near Van Wert. He was united in marriage to MARY E. BROOKS, June 20, l886. To this union 2 children were born, ENNIS R., of Daniel, Wyo., and MRS. CLARENCE BAKER, of Leon, Iowa.

His wife being called to the Great Beyond, he decided to go West, finally locating at Merna, Wyo., in l887. Here he homesteaded land and has a fine ranch near this place.

He was married the second time to SARAH F. EURITT, of Grand River, Iowa, in April, l907. On account of failing health he was compelled to leave the ranch and came back to Grand River to spend the remainder of his life.

He united with the Christian Church in early life and has lived a faithful member until death relieved him; many times expressing the beautiful truth that he was ready to go when God called him home to the Mansion prepared for him. He was confined to his bed for nearly two years during his last illness, but bore his afflictions with great patience.

He leaves to mourn his departure, a wife, son and daughter, an only brother, one having preceded him in death, nine grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed in the home but our loss is Heaven's gain. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Grand River, Friday morning, the service being conducted by Rev. Ed Price, Minister of the Christian Church at Mt. Ayr, he being a cousin of the deceased. Interment followed in the Leon Cemetery.
