Before I transcribe this obituary, I want to say that it is extremely 'blurry' and out of focus, which makes it very difficult to read. I will do the best I can. Nancee

HARRIET ANNE EIKER was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania, February 25, l835, and departed this life March 5, l923, at the age of 88 years and 7 days.

She was the daughter of JOHN and CHARLOTTE MARIE EIKER and came of sturdy German stock that settled early in this county. The principal great grandfather, ABRAHAM EIKER, a miller by trade, came from Germany and settled in Maryland. Her father drove overland with his family from Pennsylvania to Knox County, Illinois in l852. Here she was married to CHRISTIAN OVERHOLTZER, March 24, l857. To this union were born eight children, six sons and two daughters, five of whom with the husband and father, have preceded her to that better land. She moved with her family to Decatur County, Iowa in l865, and settled at Funk Mills, three years later moving to her recent home near Grand River. She united with the Presbyterian Church at Knoxville, Illinois, at an early age and continued in that fellowship until her death, she and her huband being charter members of the Presbyterian Church in Grand River.

MRS. OVERHOLTZER was a singularly conscientious and devoted Christian and an ardent supporter of works of righteousness. She lived day by day on the work at hand, a loving mother and kindly neighbor, and bore to her grave that highest of earthly comfort that an all wise God has ever (*can't read) to the workers of His will, the calm repose of a spirit which holds itself in peace to all others and so goes its way to that place which passeth understanding.

She leaves to mourn her departure, one daughter, MRS. A.R. SWITZER, of Grand River; two sons, JAMES L., of Grand River, and JOHN B., of Tingley, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Wednesday, March 7th, conducted by Rev. Habliston, of Leon and the remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Funktown Cemetery.
