JAMES MICHAEL ADAMS, eldest son of JOSHUA and TEMPA ADAMS, was born in Hancock County, Tennessee, Sept. l9, l844. When a small child, moved with his parents to Davis County, Iowa, from there to Union County, moved to Decatur County, Iowa, in l866 where he has spent the greater share of his life. Was married to MARY ANN WHEELIS on Dec. 27, l869.
To this union were born 6 children, two dying in infancy.

In l875, he united with the Camden Baptist Church, and has ever since retained his membership, always ready to help support the church. In Jan. 26, l892, his companion departed this life, leaving him and the children alone. March 3, l896, he was married to ANN BECK; in l900 she passed to the better world. On Nov. 4, l9l3, he was again united in marriage to LAURA MCKEE, who with the children, except, ROSA, were with him through his last sickness. His sickness and suffering were of long duration, she was a faithful companion always ready and willing to make his every wish granted as far as human hands were able.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his companion, two daughters; MRS. ROSA ADAMS, of Houston, Texas, who was also present for the funeral. MRS. LAURA KANE, of Murray, Iowa; two sons, WILL and FRANK ADAMS, of Grand River, Iowa; he leaves two sisters, MRS. REBECCA VANDERPOOL, of Grand River, Iowa; MRS. MARY E. LEE, of Solway, Minnesota; and one brother, LON ADAMS, of Davis City, Iowa; besides these he leaves 2l grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He departed this life at his home in Van Wert, Iowa, Feb. 24, l923, being at the time of his death, 78 years, 5 months and 4 days. He had many times requested that his favorite song, "The Unclouded Day", should be sung at his funeral, and this request was granted. Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Bro. A.L. Harper. Text l Cor. l5:50-5l. Body laid to rest in Wheelis Cemetery.
