RICHARD MEEK was born March 22, l836, in Coshocton County, Ohio, and died at the home of his daughter, MRS. LANEY, at Davis City, Iowa, Feb. 23, l923; age 86 years, ll months and l day. He was a son of DAVID and ELIZABETH MEEK, being the next to the youngest of l2 children, all of whom have passed on except his youngest brother, G.G. MEEK, of Leon, Iowa.

The family moved to Iowa in l856, spending a season at Winterset, then moving to Eden Prairie in Decatur County. MR. MEEK was married to MARY A. KEMP in l860. To them five children were born, MELVIN P., of Louise, Tex.; GEO. A., of Leon, Ia.; DAVID A., of Grandell, S.D.; PHILLIPJ., of Tumwater, Wash.; and LANIE M. LANEY, of Davis City, Iowa, who are all living to mourn the loss of their father. The mother died in April, l9l6.

MR. MEEK turned to the Lord over 50 years ago and was a faithful member of the Eden Prairie Church. He was honest and fair in his dealings, and hospitable in his home, laboring on the farm until he was crippled with rheumatism from which he suffered a great deal. He moved to Leon and sold the farm six years ago. After living there a year, he moved to Davis City with his daughter, MRS. LANEY, who patiently and faithfully cared for him through his declining years. He had been poorly with a cold in the early part of the winter, which left him in a weakened condition. He was taken with the flu, which after about ten days, resulted in his death.

He held to the faith of Jesus to the end, retaining his mental faculties well. He called upon the Lord frequently and exhorted others to have faith in Jesus and to the one church established by Christ.

Besides the children and aged brother, he leaves ll grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many other relatives. At the funeral, his brother, G.G. MEEK, his sons, GEO. A., wife and son EARL, his daughter, MRS. LANEY, and BETH MEEK, of Kansas City, daughter of MELVIN P., were present. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 25th. After a brief service at the home the body was taken to Leon for the main service at the Chapel of the Church of Christ. Interment was in the Meek Cemetery on Eden Prairie.

"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. They rest from their labors and their works follow them."
