In April, l878, the family came to Ringgold County, Iowa, and settled at Marena, They later moved to Goshen and then to Diagonal, where they continued to reside for many years.
MR. GARD was an employee of the Burlington R.R. for 20 years, working almost all the time in southern Iowa. He was married to CORA BRENNAMAN, April 26, l995, at Grand River, Iowa. They have made their home in and near Grand River ever since, except for seven years spent at Thompson, N.D.
Jan. l, l9l3, under the Pastorate of P.H. Hawk, MR. GARD was received into the fellowship of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Grand River, and joined in faithful relations to that church until his death. The last few years of his life were years of weakness and suffering. It had been apparent to all who knew him that the end was hardly to be deferred. In October, l922, Bro. GARD and his wife left for a brief residence on the Pacific coast. It was during this time the final call came and his death took place Jan. l9, l923. His age at death was 55 years, 5 months and 8 days.
He leaves his wife and daughter, ETHEL, one brother, CLARENCE, now of Los Angeles, Cal., and many other relatives and friends.
