JAMES HAZLET was born near Milford, Iroquois County, Illinois, Dec. l0, l87l, and died at his home on Eden Prairie, Decatur County, Iowa, Jan. 7, l923, aged 5l years and 27 days. He moved with his parents to Decatur County in October, l876, and continued to reside on the home farm the remainder of his life. His parents preceded him in death, the father in January, l887, and the mother, in April, l92l. Of the family are left two sisters, MRS. J.W. WALTON of Eden Township and MRS. WALTER KIMPORT, of Des Moines, Ia., and one brother, WM. HAZLET, of Hudson, Colo.

In January l886, he obeyed the Gospel under the teaching of Wm. Cobb and continued a faithful member of the Eden Prairie Church. His faith in God caused him to so conduct his life as to win the respect and confidence of all who knew him. His life was quiet and unpretentious. He did not seek fame, prominence or popularity. He was always seen on Lord's day in the assembly of the saints. One who knew him from childhood said he never knew him to be in trouble and mischief as many boys were. He was devoted to his home and cared for his mother faithfully after the death of his father.

The funeral services were held at the Eden Prairie Chapel on Jan. 9, l923, at 2 p.m., and the body laid to rest in the Chastain Cemetery.
