JOHN WESLEY WASSON, son of MILES and RACHEL J. WASSON, was born near Lineville, Decatur County, Iowa, June ll, l858; died at his home in Leon, Iowa, after a brief illness, January ll, l923, age 64 years, 7 months. He is the second of the family of ten children to pass on.

MR. WASSON received a liberal education, and after graduating, taught school for several years, two of which were as Principal of the Stanberry, Missouri High School. On February 24, l880, he married ELIZABETH E. ROCKHOLD in Lineville, Iowa. To this union were born five children, one having preceded him in infancy and four now living; MARION E. WASSON, of Des Moines, Iowa; IRENE WARNER, of Santa Ana, Cal.; MADGE BRADLEY, of Los Angeles, Cal.; and LIDA VARGA, of Leon, Iowa, who with MRS. WASSON, six granchidlren, four brothers and four sisters and other relatives, are left to mourn for an affectionate husband, an indulgent father, a kind grandfather, a true brother and a faithful friend.

After his marriage, MR. WASSON devoted the greater part of his time to farming. In his early manhood he united with the M.E. Church and his character was moulded by the principles of the "Lowly Nazarene." He was also a member of the Masonic bodies at Leon.

About twenty years ago, he moved with his family to Leon, that his children might have better educational advantages. Later he lived two years in Texas, one year in Des Moines and one year in California, but the call of Decatur County, and his early associates were too strong to pass unheeded, and he returned to Leon, about a year ago, to make his home among relatives and friends.

MR. WASSON was a man of broad mind, wide experience, and social culture, and his early demise will be a loss, not alone to his family, relatives and friends but to Leon, and Decatur County. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted in the M.E. Church in Leon, January l6th, at l:00 o'clock by Rev. E.A. Place, Pastor. Interment in the Lineville Cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Fraternity, of which MR. WASSON was an honored member.
