Thursday, November 23, l922SAMUEL GRIBBLE of Goodwin, South Dakota, son of WILLIAM and CHARLOTTE GRIBBLE, of Hookway, Devonshire, England, born April 3, l83l, and died at Dakota City, Nebraska, Nov. 9, l922, at the home of his daughter, MRS. MABEL BARNETT.
MR. GRIBBLE, accompanied by his parents, left England in l836 and came to America, settling in Canada. From Canada they moved to the United States, settling in Springfield, Illinois, where he grew to manhood with his brothers. In l855, he moved to Decatur County, Iowa.
He was united in marriage, Oct. 9, l86l to ELIZA ANN DILSAVER, of Garden Grove, Iowa; to this union were born nine children: MRS. MARY SURBER, deceased; MRS. MABEL BARNETT, of Dakota City, Nebraska; MRS. DORA DENT, of Culbertson, Nebraska; WILLIAM GRIBBLE, deceased; MRS. A. RINKLER, Des Moines; FRANK GRIBBLE, of Yale, South Dakota; CLYDE GRIBBLE, Goodwin, South Dakota; MRS. NELLIE GARTON, deceased; MRS. HUGH MCGHEE, Humeston.
MR. GRIBBLE was the eldest of seven brothers, and the last to make his departure at the age of 9l years.
He is survived by six children and thirty-two grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren, besides nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
MR. GRIBBLE was laid to rest in the Lewisburg Cemetery beside his wife who passed beyond in the year of l9l7.
In the absence of Rev. Pontius, who could not come, T.R. Gray of the Congregational Church, officiated at the funeral which was held at the Christian Church at l:30 p.m. Sunday. The difficulties overcome by the large attendance, the flowers, the beautiful music, were all appropriate, eloquent evidences of esteem in which the venerable man was held; His are the laurel leaves of imperishable memory. Under Masonic honors he was laid to rest in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
