Thursday, August 3l, l922MRS. J.L. GARDNER died very suddenly at her home in this city, Tuesday evening about 5 o'clock, while sitting in a hammock, her death being due to a ruptured blood vessel. MRS. GARDNER had gone to the hammock for a few minutes' rest, just a short time before, and her sister who was visiting at the home saw her fall from the hammock and ran to her, but she had passed away almost instantly. Arrangements for the funeral had not been made at the time The Reporter went to press, waiting to hear from her granddaughter, MRS. O.F. EATON, who is visiting in California.

Thursday, September 7, l922ELIZABETH FIERCE, daughter of E.W. and MARY FIERCE, was born in Knox County, Illinois, July 6, l852; died at her home in Leon, Iowa, August 29, l922; aged 76 years, l month and (*can't read) boys and four girls. She came to Jefferson County, Iowa, in the fall of l857, and in the fall of l860, moved to Decatur County and settled 4 l/2 miles southwest of Van Wert, where she lived until October 20, l870, when she was united in marriage to BAYLIS D. GARDNER. To this union, one daughter was born, MILLIE A. SKIDMORE, who died April l9, l899. Her husband died January l3, l893. She was again united in marriage, September 2, l898, to J. LOU GARDNER at West Plains, Mo. She moved to her present home in l900. She was a member of the Christian Church since a young woman. She was always doing good for someone, the task was never too hard.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her devoted husband, one granddaughter, MRS. INEZ EATON and two great grandsons, BOBBY and BILLY, whom she loved devotedly, besides three sisters, MRS. MAGGIE HOLMES, of Ft. Scott, Kansas; MRS. MOLLIE E. FENIMORE, of Carthage, Mo.; MRS. ANISE THOMPSON, of Gillette, Wyoming, and one brother, J.C. FIERCE, of Van Wert, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was loyal to her country, to her church and to her God.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Christian Church by Rev. H.L. Olmstead. Interment in Van Wert Cemetery.
