The second drowning accident in Decatur County within a few weeks, occurred at Lamoni last Saturday, shortly before noon, when two little brothers, RICHARD and HARRY CURRIE, only sons of MR. and MRS. THOMAS CURRIE, were drowned in the deep pond at the Old Folks Home in northwest Lamoni. The two boys started from home shortly before noon to go down town after the mail, expecting a letter from their father, who had gone to Council Bluffs for a few days visit with his parents. They stopped on the way with two boy companions at the pond and they were hunting frogs and playing around. RICHARD, the youngest boy, about 8 years old, slipped into deep water, and his brother, HARRY, aged ll years, heroically plunged into the water to try and save him. The water was quite deep, ten or twelve feet, and the struggles of the younger boy prevented his brother from saving him, and both were unable to reach the bank, going down quickly for the last time. The other boys who were a short distance away, immediately gave the alarm, and a large number of people were soon at the scene and steps were taken to recover the bodies. Both bodies were found within three-quarters of an hour, Peter Muceus and a college student named Lea, after diving repeatedly, finally located the bodies and brought them to the surface, but they were beyond help. F.S. Stewart, the Leon undertaker was called to Lamoni to prepare the bodies for burial, as Otis White, the Lamoni undertaker, was away from home.

The double funeral was held Monday afternoon, and was one of the largest ever held at Lamoni. MR. and MRS. CURRIE and family have the sympathy of everyone in their terrible bereavement. There were six children in the family, the two little boys who were drowned and four girls.
