Thursday, July 20, l922WILL C. NEWCOMER, of Lamoni, lineman for the Lamoni Electric Co., a son of TAYLOR NEWCOMER, of Eden Township, was instantly killed at Grand River last Wednesday evening. MR. NEWCOMER was working on the high tension line running from Lamoni to Grand River, and at the time of the accident was working on a transformer at the top of a pole in the southeast part of Grand River, opposite the residence of J.F. Hines. He was alone at the time, and it is supposed that in some manner he touched the live wire with his arm, Mrs. Roy Switzer saw the accident from her home and phoned to the bank, and the alarm was given at once, a number going immediately to the scene. He was found standing on a ladder with one wire under his arm and had reached across to adjust the lightning arrester when his arm touched the live wire, and the shock threw his body against the line, and he was badly burned by the high power current. It was necessary to notify the power plant at Lamoni to shut off the power before his body could be removed, after which his body was brought down with the aid of a block and tackle. Dr. Carr, of Grand River, stated he had been killed instantly by the shock. His body was taken to his home at Lamoni, where the funeral was held last Friday.
MR. NEWCOMER was an experienced lineman, and a man who was respected by all. He is survived by his wife and six children.
