JAMES MADISON MOORE was born in Fayette County, Ohio, January 8, l854, and passed away at Enid, Oklahoma, June l0, l922, aged 68 years, 5 months and 2 days.

In the year, l870, MR. MOORE came with his mother, brother and sisters from his native state, overland in a wagon to the then new District of Decatur County, Iowa, settling near the town of Leon.

While here, he married ADELINE SMITH in October, l873. He was married by Rev. Samuel Garber of the Church of the Brethren at Leon, Iowa.

The young couple made their home in Decatur and adjoining counties until l9ll, when they moved to Iola, Kansas, where they have lived ever since. To this union were born ll children, 8 boys and 3 girls, all of whom with the mother, survive him, except one daughter who died in infancy. They are EDWARD O., of Kellerton, Iowa; JOSEPH W., of Vancouver, British Columbia; JOHN O., and FRANK, of Blunt, South Dakota; CLYDE C., of Winchester, Kansas; WILLIAM, of Enid, Oklahoma; LEE L., and GERALD E., of Iola, Kansas; MRS. MYRTLE M. LANE, of Diagonal, Iowa; and MRS. FERN TURNER, of Denver, Colorado.

These above all mourn the loss of a father and husband much beloved and with them two brothers, four sisters and thirteen grandchildren, with many other relatives including MIRIAM J. HOWELL, who has made her home with the family for the past 29 years.

MR. MOORE entered the Masonic Order in about the year, l884, and though for many years he was inactive in the Order, he still maintained the high standard of the pledges of the Blue Lodge.

He became a member of the Christian Church in Iola, December 4, l9l3, under the ministry of O.C. Moomaw, having had previously obeyed his Lord in baptism, when a lad of l6 years. During his membership of the church, he was an active servant and keenly interested in the progress of the church. He was a member of the official board, of the choir, and the Board of Trustees. He was regularly in Sunday School and active in the study of his Bible. He became a charter member of the Central Christian Church in its inception and until the day of his death, was a member of the Board of Management, of the choir and active in every phase of the church work. His deep interest in all parts of the work, his practical and sane advice in every portion of the church work made him not only a valuable asset to any committee upon which he was placed, but his sterling Christian character made him beloved and respected by all who were associated with him. He possessed a business integrity unquestioned by any and his word was always his bond. The church and the community have lost a man whom they can ill afford to lose.

By the courtesy of the First M.E. Church, the funeral was held in their auditorium by Rev. A.P. Wilson, the Minister of the Central Church. The music was sung by the chorus with whom MR. MOORE had worked so long.
Burial was made in Highland Cemetery. Sleeper-Ralston Undertakers.
