SAMUEL HAYDEN WHITING was born April 22, l829, at Austinburg, Ohio, died March l2, l922, at the age of nearly 93 years old at Katy, Texas, leaving no near relatives except a niece in western Kans., MRS. W.H. BRUSH and husband, and his niece and housekeeper for 26 years, MRS. A.M. WILLIAMS, at Katy. At an early age, MR. WHITING with his parents and sisters, united with the Methodist church. In about l855, he with his mother and brother moved to Howard County, Iowa.

And in l870, to Decatur County where he put his letter in the Methodist Church. In l922 he moved to Katy, Texas, and received much benefit from the warmer climate. Although his partial loss of hearing kept him from church, he never lost his interest in religion. And all who knew him were his friends. He always retaining a lively interest in things at home and abroad.

Friday morning he was at the table for breakfast, but was taken sick with a complete breakdown of old age, Sunday March l2. At 3:20 p.m. in plain answer to prayer, he passed away without a gasp or a quiver. Perhaps two weeks before the end he repeated very earnestly to friends,

"Oh land of rest for thee I sigh,

When will the moment come

When I shall lay my armor by

And dwell with Christ at home?"

I was sure then he was giving a testimony, while he could of his faith and hope.

The funeral services were held at the Katy Mission Hall, conducted by Pastor E.N. Richey, an able and worthy Minister of the Pentecostal faith, with which MR. WHITING was in hearty accord.

Thank God, "we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens."
