ROBERT B. HAMM, for many years a resident of Leon, was killed in Des Moines last Friday, being struck by a speeding auto, and the driver of the death car is under arrest on the charge of manslaughter. He was a brother-in-law of ED MACY, of Leon. The following account of the accident appeared in the Des Moines Capital of Saturday:

Manslaughter charges will be filed in municipal court against C.T. Watts, l3ll Laurel Street, motorist who last night ran down and fatally injured R.B. HAMM, 75-year-old Civil War Veteran. HAMM died in the Des Moines General Hospital at 9 o'clock, two hours after the accident which occurred at East Sixteenth and Grand Avenue.

HAMM was crossing the street on his way from a grocery store on the corner to the residence of his daughter, MRS. STELLA YEAGER, l547 East Grand Avenue. He was dragged thirty feet on the front of the car. The car was a Ford Roadster and contained three other persons besides Watts. Witnesses said it went l50 feet before the driver could bring it to a stop after striking the aged man. The impact demolished the lights and crushed the radiator.

The injured man was carried by witnesses to the sidewalk and a police ambulance summoned. It was revealed at the hospital that his skull was fractured in several places, several ribs were broken and his lungs punctured. He did not regain consciousness.

Watts was arrested at the scene of the accident by Detectives Golderson and Dominick. He told the policeman that HAMM had once crossed clear of the car and then hesitated and stepped back directly in its path. Watt's companions were O.B. Jackson, Park Hotel, Edna Nass and Lavere Wenth, Munger Hotel.

The automobile was brought to the police station where an examination revealed that the emergency brake was not in good working condition. Signed statements will be taken today from witnesses by Coroner Guy Clift.

HAMM's body was taken to Selover and Hamilton's Funeral Home, where funeral arrangements are pending. HAMM made his home with his daughter. Besides her, he is survived by another daughter, MRS. CHARLES OSGOOD, l529 Des Moines Street, and a son, WILLIAM HAMM, who lives in Nebraska.
