'JUNE MATINGS'

~ ~ ~

A quiet home wedding was solemnized at the
home of the bride's parents
in this city on Tuesday, June llth, at one
o'clock, the contracting
parties being MR. CHARLES HAYE SIMMONS, of
Chariton, and MISS LA NELL
HOFFHINES, youngest daughter of MR. and MRS.
J. HOFFHINES.

The ceremony took place in the south parlor,
Rev. Geo. M. Hughes, of the
M.E. Church, officiating, using the very
impressive ring ceremony. The
wedding march was played by Miss Lulu Mowatt,
of Sidney, who officiated
in the same capacity at the wedding of the
bride's only sister in Dec.
l893. MISS MOWATT was attended by MR. DEE
SIMMONS, brother of the
groom.

Only the relatives and schoolmates of the
bride were present, and after
the ceremony and congratulations, the guests
sat down to an elaborate
wedding collation, served in the dining room.

The bride was attired in a very becoming
traveling costume of Navy blue
silk novelty goods and looked charming.

The happy young couple departed on the
afternoon train for Chariton,
where they will make their home, MR. SIMMONS
having a cozy cottage all
furnished for his bride. They will be at
home to their friends at 303
Court Avenue after June 20th.

The groom is one of the prominent young men
of Chariton, being at
present Deputy Postmaster, and enjoys the
esteem and friendship of all
who know him. The bride is the youngest
daughter of MR. and MRS. J.
HOFFHINES, a graduate of the Leon High School
and an accomplished young
lady who will win many friends in her new
home. The guests from abroad
were: MRS. E.J. SIMMONS, MR. DEE SIMMONS,
MRS. W.E. LEWIS, Chariton;
MRS. E.M. SANFORD, Des Moines; MISS LULU
MOWATT, Sidney.

A fad nowadays is for the bride to wear a
fancy garter, and then throw
it among the young lady guests and the one
who secures the trophy is
supposed to be the next bride. A handsome
silk garter, with silver
buckle and Rhinestone settings was worn by
the bride on this occasion,
and before they started to the train it was
thrown among the young
ladies, MISS OPHIE CLARK being the lucky one.
Attached to the garter
was the following verse, composed specially
for the occasion by the
groom:

The lucky maid who secures this
token,

Will soon be a bride and the word
then spoken,

Will unite for eternity those souls
so true,

And life will be sweet for the
happy two.
