J.C. WARNER has received his appointment as
postmaster. There is
nothing in the way of JAKE making a good
Nasby, and we sincerely hope
that he will. --GARDEN GROVE EXPRESS.

MISS BIRD PARKER, who was visiting her Aunt,
MRS. H.J. CLOSE, received a
telegram Thursday afternoon, conveying the
sad news that her father had
died at his home in Davenport. MISS PARKER
drove to Osceola to catch
the night train to Davenport.

Yesterday morning C.W. BECK received a
telegram announcing the sad
intelligence that little LEO, the
four-year-old son of Editor CHERRY of
the Albia Democrat, had died suddenly Tuesday
night. MR. and MRS.
CHERRY have the deepest sympathy of their
many friends during their sad
bereavement.

A case of "didn't-know-it-was-loaded"
happened out on the farm of H.S.
MILLER Tuesday. JOHN OILER has a brother who
just came from Illinois
the day before and they were handling a
revolver when it went off, the
ball striking JOHN in the cheek at the side
of the nose and was taken
out by Dr. Doolittle, who was called in, on
the other side of the nose.
Fortunately for MR. OILER, the ball glanced
upon striking the bone and
did not penetrate. Use the utmost care
apparently and accidents with
firearms. --GARDEN GROVE EXPRESS.

Another move was made on Monday in the State
line controversy west of
town. WM. MCLAUGHLIN, of the Iowa side,
being arrested at the
instigation of HOWARD MOORE, by the Missouri
authorities, for
obstructing a road. He was taken before
Squire Willford, of Mercer, who
held him for appearance at the next term of
court, and gave bonds.
The act for which he was arrested was for
building a fence on the line
claimed by the Iowa parties to be in Iowa,
and by the Missouri parties
to be in Missouri, thus obstructing, as
claimed, a legally established
road on the Missouri side of the line.
--LINEVILLE TRIBUNE.

After a lingering illness, MRS. DANIEL HURLEY
died at her home in
Woodland, Sunday, and was buried in the
Woodland Burial Ground Monday
afternoon. It is a very sad case indeed, as
a loving husband and nine
small children are left to mourn their loss.
The sympathy of all go to
MR. HURLEY and his motherless children.
