September 2l, l893

There are more vacant houses in Leon at
present than there has been for
many years.

MISS CARRIE HUFFMAN commenced a three month's
term of school near Grand
River, Monday.

MRS. LUCY RAY is busy receiving the immense
stock of new millinery goods
she purchased in Chicago.

Several of the property owners in Leon have
removed their fences, and it
adds greatly to the appearance of their
residences.

ANDY KEMP and JOHN BOYD went out Monday
morning to commence building a
fine house for JEROME TRAUPEL, in Long Creek
Township.

This is fine weather for painting. I will
sell you mixed paint or lead
and oil cheaper than you can buy any place in
the county. --T.E. HORNER.

MR. and MRS. GEO E. HURST's cup of happiness
was filled to the brim,
Monday, by the arrival of a charming daughter
at their home. The little
miss was at once christened GEORGIA ELIZABETH
HURST.

The attendance of the Leon High School is now
93, or three times what it
was when PROF. MCGINNIS took charge of our
schools. Of this number, 36
are non-residents, who pay two dollars per
month tuition.

The following marriage licenses were issued
the past two weeks:

S.R. AKES, 70 to MRS. C.M. MCKAY, 63.
ELMER VANWINKLE, 23 to MERTA JENKINS, 20.
GEO. THOMAS, 25 to MARY ALICE BENNETT, 20.
FRANK PETERSON, 2l to KATIE LYNCH 20.
AUGUST KEIL, 46 to SARAH MCJIMSEY, 42.

ROE CASTER has been at work the past week
with a force of men and teams
enlarging the lake about one-third by
scraping out the north end and
making a new bank at that end. He is also
going to erect another big
ice house down there.

R.B. SMITH received a telegram Monday evening
conveying the sad news of
the death of his mother, MRS. ABIGAIL
ELDREDGE SMTH, at her home in
Hastings, Neb., at the age of 65 years.
