April 8, l897

J.W. GREENMAN went to Osceola Saturday on
business.

R.L. PARRISH was in Van Wert on Business
the first of the week.

DR. ENOS MITCHELL of Weldon was in the
city Monday on professional
business.

CLAUDE W. ROBINSON of Davis City spent
Sunday with friends and relatives
in Leon.

MRS. R.B. SMITH went to Mt. Ayr Saturday
for a few days' visit with
friends and relatives.

MISS ANNA KIRWIN left Monday for Mt. Ayr,
having secured a school five
miles south of that place.

MR. and MRS. H.C. WATSON of Decatur spent
Monday in Leon with the
latter's sister, MRS. B.O. SPRINGER.

JOHN HURST spent several days last week
visiting relatives and enjoying
the company of his favorite shot gun.

MISS FLORA ALBAUGH spent several days the
latter part of last week at
Davis City the guest of MISS MERTIE
HOWELL.

B.O. SPRINGER left Monday for St. Joseph
and other points in southern
Missouri, where he will purchase his
nursery stock.

FRANK HAWK of Albany, Mo., was in Leon the
first of the week visiting
his father, JACOB HAWK. He is also a
skilled architect.

MRS. L.H. SIMMONS and baby came down from
Chariton Monday to spend a few
days with the former's parents, MR. and
MRS. J. HOFFHINES.

WILL LEDGERWOOD resumed his sample case
and territory with Pingree &
Smith, Saturday after a well earned
vacation of several weeks, spent in
Osceola, Weldon and Leon.

FRED WOOLEY, a prominent citizen of High
Point Township was in the city
on business on Wednesday of last week and
renewed his JOURNAL
subscription another year.

A.B. WILSON, Van Wert, was a Leon visitor
last Saturay and called to
renew his JOURNAL and Blade subscriptions.
The WILSON BOYS are friends
and patrons of this paper.

MRS. J.W. BURNETTE and little daughter,
returned to their home at
Fairfield Monday, having spent several
weeks here with the former's
daughter, MRS. S.L. DARRAH.

GEORGE WALKER, Decatur, handed us $3 on
subscription last Thursday.
GEORGE is a good citizen and some of his
friends are suggesting his name
for County Treasurer.

MR. and MRS. T.J. SMITH of Lamoni,
returned to their home at Lamoni,
Monday, the latter having spent several
days here with her parents, MR.
and MRS. E.J. SANKEY.

F.D. CLOSE came up from Cainsville
Saturday and spent Sunday here with
his wife. Grand River's rampage caught
his saw mill near Cainsville,
doing him some damage.

MISS ETHEL BOWMAN of Davis City, spent
Sunday in Leon. MISS BOWMAN has
accepted the position of general agent for
the Beasley Publishing House,
Chicago, and had entered upon her work.

J.N. DUVALL, who gets his mail at Van
Wert, was in town on Wednesday of
last week and handed us a $l.60 for the
JOURNAL and Inter Ocean. MR.
DUVALL came from Illinois a couple of
years ago.

MRS. JAMES JONES returned Sunday from
Albia, where she had been called
on account of the illness of her father,
who is but slightly improved.
She remained until Monday here with MR.
and MRS. JOHN BELL and then
proceeded on to her home near Kellerton.

JOSEPH CASH, Tuskeego, a warm friend of
this paper and a subscriber for
many years, while in town last week
renewed his subscription for the
JOURNAL and included the Inter Ocean
again. He will keep well informed
through the year l897.

MR. and MRS. FRANK SLADE of Columbus,
Ohio, arrived Friday for a visit
in Leon with the latter's parents, MR. and
MRS. F. VARGA. MR. SLADE is
employed with a Columbus Company which
manufactures mining machinery and
left Monday for Ottumwa, Des Moines,
Oskaloosa, Chariton and other
points in the interest of his firm. MRS.
SLADE will remain here until
her husband completes his business in
Iowa. MR. SLADE's regular
territory is located in West Virginia and
Pennsylvania.
