Pawnee Bill Historic Wild West and Great Far East Shows Exhibit Here
August 2l. - - - - - - - - -

Joe Rosenthal, general agent for the Pawnee Bill Historic Wild West and
Great Far East Shows, was in Leon last Thursday arranging for the
appearance of the big show in this city on August 2l. Mr. Rosenthal
came in from Creston Thursday morning and returned Thursday afternoon to
complete arrangements for his attraction to show there on the 20th, the
day before they are to be in Leon. Friday, Mr. Rosenthal returned to
Leon and completed arrangements here. He contracted for the Warner Base
Ball Grounds as the show lot and the two performances, afternoon and
evening of August 2lst, will be given thereon.

The Pawnee Bill Historic Wild West and Great Far East Shows, and the
Buffalo Bill Wild West Shows are to that line of the show business what
Ringling Bros. and the Barnum & Bailey shows are to the strictly circus
world. The Pawnee Bill Show is transported on twenty-seven sixty foot
cars and carries an army of employees. There are hundreds of Indians,
native soldiers of the far east, with their peculiar equipments and
their marvelous horsemanship, typical cowboys whose riding of bucking
bronchos, their crack marksmanship and clever use of the lariat, is
familiar to the civilized world, many bands, troupes of performing
Arabs, beasts of the plains, and robbing of stage coaches in truly early
day style, are a few of the many features of the big show.

The show carries its own electric light plant and dozens of arc lamps at
night makes the arena in which the performances are held as light as
day.

Major Lillie (Pawnee Bill) is a wealthy man. He has large real estate
holdings in different parts of the United States and particularly in the
vicinity of Pawnee City, Oklahoma, in which place is the Pawnee National
Bank of which he is the president. The big show has winter quarters at
Carnegie, Pennsylvania, a suburb of the great city of Pittsburgh, at
which place Major Lillie spends a great deal of his time in the winter
season, working on plans for his big amusement enterprise and looking
after the many details.

A man who does preliminary advance work will be here in a few days, and
advance car number one, of which T.W. Harrow is manager, will be here
two weeks ahead of the big show with twenty-one bill posters, so a
JOURNAL Representative was informed by Mr. Rosenthal. Advance car
number two will arrive one week ahead of the show. Car two carries a
force of twenty-six bill posters. August 2lst will be a big day for
Leon and Decatur County.
