Mr. and Mrs. SAMUEL KIER celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on
Christmas day at their home in Decatur. A large number of relatives and
friends were in attendance and assisted in the proper observation of the
interesting event.

Mr. and Mrs. KIER were united in marriage at the Decatur hotel in Decatur at
that time the home of the bride, on December 25, 1862. The maiden name of
Mrs. KIER was Miss MARTHA WELLS. After the wedding they went to Missouri
where they resided for a year and then returned to Iowa and have resided
upon their farm until about two months ago when they sold their place and
bought a residence property in the east part of the town of Decatur.

Preparations were made carefully and completely for the golden wedding
anniversary and it was a splendid success. The wedding cake was baked by
Mrs. CYRUS CREES. About fifty were present at the anniversary. Each
brought a well filled basket of good things. It was a most enjoyable day.

Mr. KIER is seventy-one years of age and Mrs. KIER sixty-nine. Mr. KIER has
but recently recovered from a rather severe illness but Mrs. KIER is
enjoying good health. They have eleven children and seven of them were
present. Those members of the family present were: Mr. And Mrs. WILLIS
CREES and family, of Decatur; Mr. And Mrs. CYRUS CREES and family, of Grand
River; ALASKA HARGER and family, of Decatur; FRANK ROBBINS and family, of
Leon; VERN KIER and family, of Leon; DON KIER, of Decatur; Mr. And Mrs.
GEORGE NEGLEY, of Decatur; GEORGE WELLS, of Oklahoma, brother of Mrs. KIER.
