BIOGRAPHY ~ CLOYD VANDEL FOLAND FAMILY

Cloyd Vandel Foland, son of Alva Albert and Ella (McConnell) Foland was born January 31, 1914 in Grand River, Iowa. His mother died suddenly of a heart attack on September 20, 1915, leaving him as a baby of one year. In 1917 the family moved to Grand River and his father ran the livery car, later operating a saw mill at various places. He was raised for a while by his older brothers and sisters and spent nine years with his Aunt and Uncle Bert and Lulu Jones on a farm in Doyle Township, Clarke County, now lived in and owned by Jim and Marie Jones.

He was married in 1936 to Doris June Stubbs, daughter of Adrian and Laura (Warrick) Stubbs, born June 26, 1918. They lived in Van Wert and farmed near Leon, then purchased the Edd Cave farm north of Decatur. She worked at the Decatur County Hospital.

They became the parents of four children: Richard Cloyd, born Feb. 6, 1937; Peggy Ileen, stillborn; Ronald Roe, born May 18, 1944; and Gary Gene, born December 11, 1945.

NOTE: Cloyd died July 29, 1995. Doris died November 24, 2008. They were interred at Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.
