BIOGRAPHY ~ LUKE CONWELL

Luke Conwell, son of Edward and Julia (Daughton) Conwell, was born April 19, 1885 Decatur County, Iowa and died in 1972. He married Alma Barrett (1885-1963), daughter of William and Catherine (Grogan) Barrett in 1911 at Milligan, Nebraska. After his death [December 24] 1972, the Conwells had farmed in the same community for 120 years. He met Alma when she came to visit her sister Nellie, who was teaching school in this area. Luke and Alma became the parents of three children: Nellie Conwell, a former teacher, never married; Evelyn Conwell Mahrenholz; and William Robert, a widower with four children, engaged in insurance, real estate and private investing, a resident of Atherton, California.

Both Luke and Alma are buried in Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

NOTE: Nellie Conwell died May 21, 1998, and was interred at Leon Cemetery.
