Emma Mae Whirrett
Emma Mae Schindler was born March 20, 1894, to Frederick and Mary Tschantz Schindler. She attended school at Center School where she received her elementary education. She attended Southern Iowa Normal where she earned her teacher's certificate. She later taught in several schools in Davis County and often Sunday School classes.
On October 24, 1915, (whe) was united in marriage to Neal J. Whirrett, who preceded her in death in 1960. To this union one son, Glenn William Whirrett, was born.
Also left to mourn her passing is her step-daughter, Mayna Willier. Others include three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, her twin brother, Elmer of Columbus, Ohio, a sister, Mrs. Helen Hockersmith of Bloomfield, Iowa, and brother, Alvin W. Schindler of College Park, Maryland, and many friends and relatives.
Her parents, a brother, John, and a younger sister preceded her in death.
She passed away February 11, 1978, at the home of her son, with whom she had lived for two years.
She was a member of Pulaski United Methodist Church. Emma spent her entire life in the Waneta neighborhood. Her interests were in her home, family, community and flowers and reading, particularly poetry and her Bible.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1978, at the Wagler Funeral Home, Bloomfield, Iowa; conducted by the Rev. Robert Borton.
At the funeral Rev. Borton read three of Emma's favorite passages of scripture which were, the 128 Ps., Prov. 31:10-31, and Matt. 12: 28, 29, 30. Also read was a part of Emma's favorite poen, Thanatopsis, by W.C. Bryant.
Casket bearers were David Burns, Don Giles, Max Hecker, Henry Kline, Cullie Kline, and Irvin Westhoff.
The final resting place was at the Pulaski cemetery beside her husband, Neal.
