William McClure was born In Kentucky. October 12, 1829 and departed this life July 28, 1912 at the home of his oldest daughter Maria Hancock of Bloomfield, aged 82 years 9 months and 16 days. His parents immigrated to Indiana in 1830 and from Indiana to Iowa when he was 16 years old, and settled in Van Buren county near Eldon. William came later to Davis County and a lived east of Floris the greater part of his life. He was the eldest of a large family of children. Of the family yet living there are Robert of Bloomfield, Stephen and John of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Amanda Dahlgren near Eldon, two half-brothers and one half-sister, Hiram of Eldon. Calvin of Kansas and Ida in Oklahoma. The departed was married to Letitia Ann Prevo in Bloomfield March 11, 1851 who departed this life July 13, 1890. They raised a family of nine children, all living except Clara Pickens, who died March 7, 1911. Those living are Emanuel, of Fairfield, Washington. Jefferson of Albany Oregon. Stella Barker of Spencer, Iowa, who visited with him a few weeks ago. The rest of the children were with him in his last days Mrs. W. H. Hancock, Bloomfield, Mrs. H. C.
Black. Bloomfield. Mrs. Walter Ritz. Milton, Obed of Floris and William of Eldon. Mr. McClure united with the Christian church under the preaching of Peter Schick in 1858. He was a charter member of the Mt. Gilead church and in his declining years no dear to him as Mt. Gilead. He was beloved by all the preachers because of his friendship and hospitality and highly esteemed by all for his faith and good works. "The funeral services were hold in Mt. Gilead church July29, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. A Hastings, assisted by Rev. B. W. Hastings of Floris and the large gathering witnessed to the regard in which he was held. The interment was in Mr. Gilead cemetery.
