George Washington Breeding was born in Davis County, Iowa, March 17, 1852.
During his 45 years of residence there, he was a most respected farmer of the county. Fifteen years ago he removed with his family to South Ottumwa, where he had since lived. During the first years in this city he engaged in the livery business and later became a teamster, the occupation which he was following when death claimed him. He was well known in Ottumwa, especially on the South Side, and his demise came as a shock to his many friends. The illness which caused his death was of very short duration. Mr. Breeding worked all day Monday, although he complained slightly of sickness. His condition became worse during the night and a physician was summoned. He slowly became weaker until he went to his reward Tuesday afternoon, September 26, at 2 o'clock. Death was due to a complicated disease of the bowels in its acute stage. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, and four sons, Carl of Ottumwa Merle of Omaha, and Pearl and Earl of Colorado. His remains were laid to rest Wednesday, September 27, in the Ottumwa cemetery, beside the body of his little grandchild in accordance with his request.
