Ottumwa tri-weekly courier, April 15, 1911 PIONEER WOMAN PASSES AWAY RACHEAL ELIZABETH CALVERT, AN OCTOGENARIAN, DIED THIS MORNING.
The angel of death claimed Mrs. Racheal Elizabeth Calvert this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. M. Hammack, 105 South Ford Street at 1 o'clock.
This venerable pioneer of this section of the state was in her eighty-ninth year. She was born in St. Johns, New Brunswich, and removed to Drakeville in Davis County about fifty-two years ago. She had been a resident of Davis and Wapello counties since, residing in Ottumwa at periodical times for at least ten years. Three sons and daughter together with numerous friends and relatives mourn the death of Mrs. Calvert. The sons are George H. Calvert of Drakeville, John F. Calvert of Mt. Pleasant and Charles M. Calvert of Ottumwa, and the daughter is Mrs. Ida M. Hammack, at whose home death occurred. Mrs. Calvert had been bedfast since last Friday.
She had always been a consistent member of the Christian church at Drakeville.
Short funeral services will be held at the Hammack home this evening at 8 o'clock by Rev. Isaac Elder, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church. The remains will be taken to Drakeville tomorrow morning and funeral services will be held in the Christian church there at 2 p. m. Interment will be made in the Drakeville cemetery, beside her husband, who died twenty years ago.
