Musician Buzz Fountain dies

PULASKI - Noted Iowa musician Alva J. "Buzz" Fountain, 65, was buried today with military rites at Fountain Cemetery in Davis County. Fountain died in Bloomfield's Davis County Hospital Friday night.

Fountain was renowned in southeast Iowa for his performances at the Selma Jam monthly music festival. He played the fiddle and banjo in many communities throughout Iowa.

Fountain was also a retired patrol operator at the Davis County Engineer's office. He worked there 28 years.

Fountain, a lifetime Davis County resident, was a World War II veteran and member of the American Legion. He was born north of Pulaski on Sept. 24, 1916, the son of Millard and Vesta Simmons Fountain.

He married Betty Fry Aug. 18, 1945 in Bloomfield. She survives along with three brothers and one sister: Thomas, Bloomfield; Charles, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Joseph, Waverly, Neb.; and Helen Ruth Fountain, Bloomfield.
