Services for Verne M. Higens, 84, Winterset, who died April 28 at Des Moines General Hospital, were held Saturday, April 30, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Berry officiating. Burial was at the Dexter Cemetery.

Born in Des Moines on Nov. 29, 1903, he was the son of Charles and Jeanette Bishop Higens. He was a retired pastor and had lived here the past several years and attended the Word of Life Christian Center.

Mr. Higens was a past Friends minister serving pastorates in Warren, Adair, Guthrie and Boone counties.

On Aug. 8, 1948, he was married to Mary L. Speer at the Penn Center Methodist Church in Madison county.

Survivors include his wife of Winterset; and a sister, Vera (Mrs. Frank) Spear of Lacona, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother.
