John E. Love, son of John and Florence Boren, was born March 10, 1893 in Albia, Iowa and passed away June 1, 1978 at Winterset Care Center South after a short illness.

John’s mother and father passed away when he was only seven and he and brothers George and Donald spent a short time in an orphanage. At the age of 8, he was adopted by the S. C. Loves of Wellman, Iowa.

Elsie Poffenberger of Adel became John’s wife and two sons were born to them, Francis and Arvid. Elsie passed away when Arvid was an infant.

Later John was united in marriage to Pauline Coulter. To this union three children were born, Patty Lou (who died at birth), Edward and Charles.

John was in the shoe repair business for over 50 years. He also served as Dexter’s town marshal for 32 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his adoptive parents, two brothers George Boren and Donald Cox and son Francis who was lost in World War II.

Survivors mourning his passing are his wife Pauline; sons Edward of Dexter, Charles of Des Moines, and Arvid and his wife Lila of Dexter; two granddaughters, Linda of Des Moines and Pam of Germany; five great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted June 3, 1978 at the United Methodist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Robert G. Farr officiating. Music was provided by Miss Sharon Schaaf. Casket bearers were Pat Brink, Norman Lyddon, Leo Nopoulos, Paul Wells, Richard Wells and Robert Wells.

Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery.
