Funeral services for Charles Maroney were held Saturday afternoon at the Dexter Methodist Church with burial in the Dexter Cemetery.

Mr. Maroney passed away Tuesday evening at the Dexter Hospital following a lingering illness.

He moved to Dexter from Story County 32 years ago and was employed as a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters, including Mrs. Gaylord Thompson of Dexter, two sons and two step-children.

Charles Maroney passed away July 9, 1969 at the age of 87 years, 3 months and – days. He retired about 12 years ago. He spent much of his life as a grading contractor. He helped lay out the streets of the original town of Nevada, at this time he was employed by p. E. Saugart. He also helped lay the tracks for the Northwestern Railroad. In 1918 he bought his own road constructing Company and graded many of the roads in Story County. His later years were spent in carpenter work in Dexter, Iowa, where he spent the past 32 years of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lena Maroney of Dexter; also James Maroney of Nevada, Mary Doolittle of Story City, Elizabeth Rhodes of South Field, Michigan, Loretta Jewett of Red Wood City, Calif., Tom Maroney of Ames and Darlene Thompson of Dexter. One son, Paul, preceded him in death. Also surviving are two step children, Nola Stewart and Lyle Cheever of Sun Valley, Calif.

Services were held Saturday, July 12 at two o’clock in the Dexter United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.
