Lena A. Maroney, the daughter of John and Ida Hutchins Jones, was born November 3, 1887 in Ida County, Iowa. She passed away at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on October 22, 1979 at the age of 91.

In 1906 Lena was married to Clarence Cheever. Four children blessed this union, Lyle, Oakley, Nola and Thelma.

In 1923 Lena was united in marriage to Charles Maroney in Des Moines, Iowa. One daughter, Darlene, blessed this marriage. In 1933 the family moved to Dexter where Lena made her home until 1976 when she entered the Earlham Care Center.

Lena was a member of the Happy Hour Club in Dexter and a member of the United Methodist Church of Dexter.

Lena will be remembered as a kind and loving mother by her three surviving children, Lyle Cheever of Sun Valley, California, Mrs. Nola Stewart of Salmon, Idaho and Mrs. Darlene Thompson of Dexter. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one son, one daughter, three step-children, one granddaughter, four brothers and five sisters.

Memorial services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Dexter, Iowa on October 24, 1979 with the Rev. Robert G. Farr officiating. Robert Lawson was at the organ and Mrs. Vera Stiles was the pianist. The hymn sung was “There’s No Disappointment in Heaven”. Casket bearers were her grandsons, Ed Thompson, Church Thompson, Eugene Brehm, Dennis Doolittle, Delana Doolittle, and Jim Maroney. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa
