On Sunday morning last, occurred the sad death of Prof. F. E. Lenocker at Williamsburg, Ia. On July 3, 1900, he was married at that place to Miss Jessie Popham and they immediately departed for a wedding tour in the southern states, being gone only a short time and returning to Williamsburg for a short stay when Mr. Lenocker was taken ill with malaria and other complications set in. About the middle of last week his father, G. F. Lenocker, went to his bedside and he was thought to be recovering, being such improved Saturday. On Sunday morning he was on the decline and relatives here were sent for, but in a short time another message came announcing his death.

Francis E. Lenocker was born April 14, 1866, in Holmes county, and died July 29, 1900. In 1867 he came with the family to Illinois and in 1869 to Iowa. He was an industrious young man and won honors in the Dexter Normal school, then at Cedar Falls in the State Normal, from which he graduated in 1891 with the degree of Bachelor of Didactics. He graduated from the State University at Iowa City in 1898. He was principal of the schools at Onslow two years, and at Arcadia three years, and the two years prior to his death, he had filled the principalship of the Guthrie County High school at Panora. He had labored hard and diligently to rise to the prominence that he attained in educational circles and had made himself a useful and helpful man. Somewhat retiring in character, yet rue and exemplary, when you had made his acquaintance you loved him. His years on earth were short, yet fruitful in good deeds and kind acts. There is a peculiar sadness in his death since he had been so recently married and was starting out in that new relation full of hope and anticipation of future happiness. The young wife is prostrated and the whole family grief-stricken.

The funeral was held at the home of his parents in Dexter, Tuesday, the remains having arrived from Williamsburg, Monday. Rev. C. L. Baxter preached the sermon and was assisted by Rev. R. J. Davidson and Rev. McEwen, of Panora. The I.O.O.F. lodge had charge of the service, attending in a body. The remains were interred in the Dexter cemetery. The funeral was one of the most largely attended of any ever held in Dexter. About forty persons from Panora were present and many from the country and the adjoining towns.
