John S. Lenocker was born in Erienboch, County of Bern, Switzerland, September 26, 1822. He died in the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Saturday, January 30, 1915, at 10:30 p.m. aged 92 years, 4 months and 4 days. When he was eleven years of age he came with his parents to America, living with them for a number of years in Stark county, Ohio; afterward moving to Holmes county, Ohio. Here he made his home till the later seventies, when he came to the sate of Iowa, where he continued to live till the time of his death. He was the father of six children, of whom two are living, one daughter in California and one son in West Virginia. The late Fred Lenocker and J. B. Lenocker were his brothers. He still has one brother, Philip Lenocker, living in Colorado, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, living in Stuart. He also has two half brothers and one half sister living in Ohio. Beside those above mentioned there are many nephews, nieces and other relatives, a goodly number of whom live in and about Dexter. He was a member of the Christian church in the country near Stuart. For the past three years he has been a guest in the “Home for the Aged” in Des Moines. He continued quite vigorous for a man of his age up to the time of his last sickness, and during the Sunday meetings was able to walk from the Home to the tabernacle to meeting. It was while on his way to church three weeks ago that he slipped on the icy walk and broke his hip and shoulder bones from which injuries he died. He was quite uncomplaining and anxious not to trouble others with his ills, even after severely injured. At the time of his last sickness and death he was in a Christian hospital receiving such kind ministrations as skilled and sympathetic hands could give him. Thus his long and eventful life came to its close. Besides his only sister, Mrs. Jones, many relatives and friends were present at the funeral, which was held in the Presbyterian church at Dexter, Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Warren F. Goff, pastor of the church. Interment took place in the Dexter cemetery.
