William Henry Stiles, son of Henry and Martha Bell Stiles, was born in Benton County, Illinois, May 11, 1878. He died at the Dexter hospital-clinic December 28, 1959 at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Mr. Stiles came to Ringgold Co., Iowa at an early age where he attended the rural schools. On August 15, 1897, he was united in marriage to Minnie E. McFarland. To this union were born three children: Carroll Stiles of Dexter, Mona Eastman and Don Stiles, both of Des Moines.

The early years of their marriage were spent in Ringgold County. Fifty-five years ago, the family moved to the Earlham community where Mr. Stiles attended the Friends church. After the many years in the Earlham community, 15 years were spent in Des Moines. Mr. Stiles has made his home in Dexter the last couple of years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died January 17, 1956, a grandson, Richard Stiles and two great grandchildren.

He is survived by a half brother, Elmer Stiles of Merced, California, a half sister, Josie Brown of Denver, Colorado, two step-sisters, Kate Simpson of Diagonal, Iowa, and Irma Gray of California, and a step-brother, Dean Shepard of California, his three children, ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
