Lester Wayne Bebout, the son of Clarence Horace Bebout and Hazel Mae Nichols, was born on 11 February 1920 in Washington Township, Jasper County, Iowa.

Lester graduated from Dexter High School.

In early 1942, Lester married Helen F. Barden, the daughter of Francis Edward Barden and Anna Margaret Larsen. Helen graduated from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa.

Circa 1941, Lester started working at the Iowa Ordnance Plant in Middletown, Des County, Iowa. On 4 March 1942, there was an explosion at the plant’s melt-load building on line 3. Lester was one of six men who were initially unaccounted for. His body was recovered/identified by 12 March.

Burial was in the Dexter cemetery.
