George Weesner, son of James and Frances Weesner, was born September 9, 1896, in Adair County, Iowa, and passed away after a lengthy illness May 6, 1970, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 3 days.

He grew up on a farm in Adair County and graduated from the Stuart High School in the class of 1916. After a year of college at Cedar Falls, he returned to farming. His marriage to Agnes Tobin took place in 1925, April 18th, and they made their home near Pitzer in Madison County. Two daughters were born to them. They moved to their present home in Dexter in 1959.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William n. and one brother and two sisters who died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes, and their two daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Laurence Hayes) of Centerville, Iowa and Wanda (Mrs. John Glosson) of Sioux City, Iowa; one brother, Roland P. Weesner of Dexter; and one sister, Mrs. Florence Johnston of Sioux City, Iowa; and by eight grandchildren.

Mr. Weesner joined the Jefferson Center Church, and transferred his membership to the Dexter Methodist church in which he was active as long as health permitted. He served as assessor in Penn and Jackson Townships for several years, a work which he especially enjoyed.

He was a kind and loving father and was well known and liked by friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed in his community.

Final rites were conducted May 8 at the Dexter United Methodist Church with interment made at the Dexter Cemetery. Mrs. K. M. Chapler played the organ as Robert Lawson sang “How Great Thou Art.”
