SHARILYNN (CARTER) ALGREEN, Dexter, Iowa
(1941 - 2016)

A memorial gathering will be held at the fellowship hall of the Dexter United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 20th from 1 to 3 p.m. with a prayer and remembrance service at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to be made to the family, that will be donated to Sharilynn's favorite charities will be accepted.

Sharilynn's Life Story

Sharilynn was born on the family farm south of Stuart, IA on May 31, 1941, to Wilbur and Margy (Travis) Carter. She reunited in heaven with her parents and her brother Gary on February 9, 2016. Her surviving siblings are Ron Carter and wife Karen of Ankeny, Dale Carter and wife Linda of Des Moines and Randy Carter and wife Lynn of Ankeny. She is also survived by sisters–in-law Jeanne Carter-Pierce of Winterset and Jolene Caldon of Arizona.

Sharilynn grew up in rural Dexter and attended Dexter schools. On July 14, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart Ronnie Algreen. They made their home in Dexter and together they raised 3 children; Pam of Kansas City, MO, Deb (Steve) Goodner of Ankeny, and Bruce of Dexter. Ronnie and Sharilynn have 9 grandchildren. Pam’s kids; Travis, Coty, Jesse and Cade. Deb’s kids; Skyler, Dylan and step-daughter Stephanie Shreeves. Bruce’s kids; Amie and Ben. Sharilynn enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s school events. She was very proud of them and always cheered them on. They also have 8 wonderful great-grandchildren with another on the way this summer.

Sharilynn worked for many years as a bus driver for the Dexfield schools and continued to drive for West Central Valley schools after the merger. She was often stopped when she was out in the community by former students who fondly remembered riding her bus, especially the extra ornery kids who Sharilynn always had a soft spot for.

Sharilynn enjoyed traveling with her husband to Kansas City, Branson, MO and Lacrosse, WI. She was an Iowa State Cyclone fan but was so nice she also cheered for the Hawkeyes. Sharilynn was an avid garage saler and enjoyed rummaging around antique shops. She was also known to win a few dollars at the casinos. Her luck continued as she most recently won the Super Bowl pool at the Dexter Legion!

Sharilynn will be greatly missed by her husband, kids, grandchildren and brothers as well as extended family and many, many friends. We will remember her as strong willed, but also as a very loving and compassionate person. There wasn’t a person on this earth that she wouldn’t help out. She always remembered everyone’s birthday and you could count on receiving a birthday card from her and Ronnie.
