Dexter—Clell F. (Burger) Hoy, 73, of Dexter died March 12, 1991 in Riviera, Texas.

The son of Memphis and Roxie Hoy, he was born at Ida Grove on June 4, 1917 and moved to Dexter in the early 1930s. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1936, and after basic training at the Great Lakes, he served on board the battleship Colorado for three years, participating in the Amelia Earhart search in the South Pacific. He served aboard seven destroyers, five of which survived the war. He had served in the European-Asiatic Theater, and received two good conduct medals and a Purple Heart. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946, having reached the rank of Chief Commisary Steward.

Following his discharge, he returned to Dexter, and in 1955, he moved to Chicago and married a longtime friend. After her death in 1982, he returned to Dexter.

He was a member of American Legion Post 419 at Dexter.

Mr. Hoy was preceded in death by his brother, Ora; a sister, Cleo Vanzandt and I. G. Anderson. A younger brother, Max, followed him in death on March 16.

Survivors include a step-daughter and three grandchildren.
