Wanda Hurst, 76, of Dexter, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 in Des Moines.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 3 at the United Presbyterian Church in Dexter. Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.

Wanda Floydine Hurst was born near Panora in Guthrie County on Feb. 15, 1929, the daughter of Floyd and Opal Holmes. She went to country school, completing eight years in seven, then attended high school in Redfield, where she graduated in 1945. She contracted infantile paralysis at the beginning of her junior year and spent much of the school year undergoing treatment at Kenney Cottage. However, with much perseverance she kept up with her studies and returned to school to graduate with her class.

She married Donald Hurst on Oct. 29, 1949. In 1959 she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The Presbyterian Church was her center of activities as long as she was able. She became bedfast 10 years ago.

She is survived by her husband, Donald, of Dexter; three sons, David of Polk City, Darrell of Des Moines and Roger of Laurens; a sister, Vivian Lamb of Redfield; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Kuhn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
