Dexter—A funeral for Mildred I. Herkelman, 87, of Dexter was held July 7, 1989 at the United Methodist Church in Dexter. Mrs. Herkelman died of a heart attack on July 5 at the Mitchell Village Care Center at Mitchellville. Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.

The daughter of Harry and Alice Wheatley Dasher, she was born near Anita on Oct. 27, 1901. She married Waldo W. Herkelman on June 4, 1924. She had lived in the Dexter area since 1950, and was a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Iris Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, two brothers and one grandchild.

Survivors include three daughters, Delores Tate of Kingsland, Texas, Marilyn Burkheimer of Boone and Carl Van Fosson of Mitchellille; two sons, Dwight Herkelman of Carlisle and David Herkelman of St. Joseph, Mo.; a sister, Crystalle Schmeiser of Wapello; 20 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
