Dexter—A service for Donald Gowdey, 79, of Dexter was held Jan. 18, 1983 at the Dexter United Methodist Church with burial in the Dexter cemetery. Mr. Gowdey died Jan. 16.

He was born June 5, 1903 in Guthrie County near Dexter. He moved to town with his parents five years later and he spent most of his life in Dexter.

Mr. Gowdey went blind after an accident when he was nine years old, and he graduated from the Iowa School for the Blind at Vinton.

He enjoyed music and often sang solos at Sunday school classes.

Mr. Gowdey was a member of the Dexter United Methodist church and attended Sunday School until his health failed.

He entered the Community Care Facility at Stuart in 1971.

His parents died before him.

Survivors include his two sisters, Vera Stiles and Della Gowdey of Dexter, and a brother, Gale of Lime Springs, Iowa.
