Dexter—A funeral for Ida Matilda Cox, 87, of Ames and formerly of Dexter was held Aug. 14, 1986 at the United Methodist Church here. Mrs. Cox died of cancer on Aug. 11 at the home of Connie and Jerry Sloan of Ames, where she had made her home.

Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.

The daughter of James and Minnie Buchanan, she was born Sept. 28, 1898 near Greenfield. She attended school in Adel. On Feb. 18, 1920, she married Dwight W. Cox. They farmed near Adel and later moved to Dexter where they raised their family.

Mrs. Cox was a member of the Dexter United Methodist Church, Navy Mothers, Dexter American Legion Auxiliary, Iris Garden Club, Golden Agers and Rebekahs.

Survivors include two sons, Robert of Tustin, Calif., and Keith of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Marcia DeHoet of Sioux City, Virginia Mangels of Fontanelle and Connie Sloan of Ames; a brother, Richard Buchanan of Gowrie; a sister, Viola Johnson of Williams; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
