Dexter—A funeral for Robert Martin Creager, 95, of Dexter was held May 11, 1989 at the United Methodist Church here. Mr. Creager died of pneumonia on May 8 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center at Des Moines. Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery.

The son of Martin P. and Margaret A. Tate Creager, he was born at Palmer, Kan. On Aug. 29, 1893. He came to Dexter in August 1904, and graduated from Dexter High School in 1911. He attended Highland Park College in Des Moines and became a rural mail carrier in 1913, retiring in 1963. He coached football and baseball at Dexter High School from 1918 to 1920. He married Ruth A. Lewellen on Jan. 9, 1913, and they had two children. On Aug. 6, 1932, he married Minne P. Putney.

He was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, serving on the church board. He also served three terms on the Dexter school board and was a member of the Dexter High School Officials Association, officiating at football, basketball and baseball games throughout his life. He was also a member of the Rural Letter Carrier’s Association, and had served on the Dexter Volunteer Fire Department from 1918 until the late 1950’s.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Killingsworth of Omaha, Neb. and Gloria Carlson of Kingsville, Texas; two sons, Robert L. of Dexter and Robert W. of Des Moines; a brother, Walter Creager of Silvis, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
