Monta F. Clifton, 77, of Adel, died of complications of diabetes, Monday, May 21, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held after noon Thursday, May 24. Family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at McCalley Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Dexter Cemetery near Dexter.

Monta Clifton was born in Green Mountain and had lived in Adel for the past seven years. Prior to that she had lived in Dexter, Earlham, Murray, Gowrie, Des Moines, and Marshall County.

She married Everett “Chet” Clifton on March 26, 1940, in Bethany, Mo. She worked in the Isenberg Drug Store in Dexter for many years and retired from Casey’s in Dexter in 1986.

She was a member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church and the Dexter Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Glendoline Douglas and Annabelle Felden; and one son, Dwight Clifton.

Survivors include two sons, Arnie Clifton of Adel, and Jerry Clifton of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Morton of Birmingham, Ala.
