Dexter—Wilber LaVerne Carter, 80, of Dexter died Sunday, May 23, 1999, of heart disease at Mill Pond Retirement Home in Ankeny. Services were held Wednesday, May 26, at Grace Baptist Church in Winterset, with burial at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter. Arrangements were made by Kuhn Funeral Homes in Dexter.

Carter was born in rural Stuart on April 19, 1919 to Roy and Mae Lyddon Carter. He grew up in the Dexter area and graduated from Dexter High School in 1936. In December 1940 he married Margy Travis. He worked as a farmer in Dexter.

Survivors include his wife Margy; four sons Ron, Dale, Gary and Randy Carter; one daughter, Sharilynn Algreen; two brothers, Carl and Warren Carter; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
