Dexter—A funeral for Dr. Keith Mendenhall Chapler, 86, of Kingston, Ontario and formerly of Dexter was held April 29, 1992 at the United Methodist Church at Dexter. Dr. Chapler died at Kingston on April 26. Burial was at the Dexter Cemetery.

The son of the Rev. Charles Elmer and Miriam Lyle Chapler, he was born at Belmond on April 8, 1906. He married Elinor Groh in 1930.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Arkansas and completing his internship at Iowa Lutheran Hospital at Des Moines, he opened a medical practice in Dexter in 1933. He continued his work, which included a partnership with Dr. C. R. Osborn at the Clinic Hospital, until 1980. He was a member of county, state and national medical societies and held life memberships in the Iowa Medical Society, with the Iowa Lutheran Hospital medical staff and in the American Academy of Family Physicians.

He served as chairman of the Dexter Board of Education for 15 years, was institutional representative of the Commercial Club for the Boy Scouts of America for 10 years and participated in higher levels of Scout Work. He served two terms as president of the Commercial Club and belonged to the Masons, Shriners and Des Moines Club. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Dexter and served as board chairman for 25 years.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Christopher Keith Chapler of Kingston, Ontario, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
